Within 50 miles of Lutz there are 13 institutions of higher education, including Hillsborough Community College, Eckerd College, Florida Southern College, and the highly-esteemed University of South Florida. Lutz is served by Hillsborough County Public Schools. The district operates 156 elementary schools, 64 middle schools and 30 high schools, 28 of which are magnet schools. Events and Recreation

The Land O'Lake Flapjack Festival is a November event hosted by the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce. The festival involve down-home ingredients, free flapjacks and lots of entertainment. The event is the biggest in the community and draws residents from neighboring counties as well. Other events at the Land O'Lakes Community Center include the Jellybean Jamboree and the Haunted House during Halloween.  The Recreation Complex on the grounds provides a park with soccer, baseball, football, tennis and racquetball facilities, as well as a swimming pool, gymnasium and playground. Throughout Hillsborough and neighboring counties, the Suncoast Parkway Trail is a safe 400-foot-wide corridor for cyclists and pedestrians.  Along the trail are rest stops and wildlife viewing points with wetland and rivers to admire. The trail is paved and runs by several public lands, greenways and parks with easy access to the 8,000-acre J. B. Starkey Park. The park provides hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping.
